Canson Life Drawing Sketchbook P.4&5

Instead of a boring, static page spread I'm giving you an short, little animation I made from 20 gesture drawings.  I drew this sequence from the Real Action Collection Volume #2 using a Pigma Pen 05.

BTW I TOTALLY recommend picking up this book!  It has a variety of wonderful action sequences with both clothed and unclothed models.  Its a little tricky to find online, but Kinokuniya should have it at any of their brick-and-mortar locations.  I bought my copies of volumes 2 and 3 at their Little Tokyo store in LA.

Capoeira Animation

These gesture drawings were referenced from a Capoeira Slow Motion video I found on YouTube.  I was pretty pleased with the "flow" of the static drawings so I put things to the test by creating an animated gif in Photoshop.  I've done a couple of these in the past with my gesture drawings but this is the first time I've used so many frames to create an animation.  I really like the way it turned out!

Breakdancer Sequence

I was browsing videos on YouTube yesterday when this one caught my eye.  I picked the segment starting at 1:17 to sketch because I liked the silhouette of the dancer and the sequence was short enough that I could fit almost all of the frames onto one sketchbook page.  Each individual sketch was drawn by an 08 Micron and took 1-2 minutes to complete.

For fun I created an animated gif to test the flow of the gesture drawings.  Overall I'm pretty stoked on how everything turned out!  I want make some more of these!!!

Capoeira Fight Sketches

There's a cool fight between Tony Jaa and Lateef Crowder in the movie Tom-Yum-Goong (released as The Protector in the US). I sketched out two sequences from the same fight by pausing the action every three frames or so.  Each step took about a minute to draw, I used a M-point PITT pen for the linework and a Pentel felt pen to quickly spot blacks.

EDIT: I added two gifs I created from the gesture drawings.  I like the way they came out!
