This was drawn in pencil on the cardboard back from an old sketchpad and then painted in acrylics.
P.S. The background is referenced from a photo I took outside of Ludlow, California.

I love this! Giving the old joke setup a realist Americana-style scene. I think this chicken would cross the road for only the most practical of purposes (maybe there's a feed store on the other side?) Absolutely beautiful painting.
